The feasibility of instrumenting the inflatable passive sphere (presently used to provide upper atmosphere density measurements) with miniaturized thermistors, pressure transducers, and accelerometers was analyzed. Data from the sensors must be transmitted by an onboard telemetry system to a ground receiving station. Planetary gears (PLG's) work as the name implies: the sun wheel is in the center and driven by the motor. It confers its motion onto three rotary planetary wheels which form a stage. They are arranged on the bearing bolt of a planetary carrier. The last planetary carrier in each case is rigidly connected to the drive shaft and so provides power transmission. An algorithm for solving a large class of two- and three-dimensional nonseparable elliptic partial differential equations (PDE's) is developed and tested. It uses a modified D'Yakanov-Gunn iterative procedure in which the relaxation factor is grid-point dependent. It is easy to implement and applicable to a variety of boundary conditions.
